【Optica】Optica Announces 2023 Fellows Class

Professor Chao Zuo was elected as a 2023 Optica Fellow for his pioneering contributions to computational phase imaging and metrology, particularly for noninterferometic quantitative phase imaging and high-speed 3D optical metrology, according to an announcement by Optica on 8th November. Optica is an esteemed US-based professional body formerly known as The Optical Society (OSA).


It is a distinguished honor as Prof. Zuo is among the 109 members from 24 countries or regions elected to the 2023 Fellows Class, out of a total of 240 nominations in a highly competitive election process.

WASHINGTON— The Board of Directors of Optica (formerly OSA), Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, recently elected 109 members from 24 countries to the Society’s 2023 Fellow Class. Optica Fellows are selected based on several factors, including outstanding contributions to business, education, research, engineering, and service to Optica and ourcommunity.


“I am pleased to welcome the new Optica Fellows,” said Satoshi Kawata 2022 Optica President. “These members join a distinguished group of leaders who are helping to advance the field optics and photonics. Congratulations to the 2023 Class.”


Fellows are Optica members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics and photonics. The Fellow Members Committee, led by Chair Takunori Taira, RIKEN / IMS, Japan reviewed 240 nominations submitted by current Fellows. The Committee extends their thanks to all of this year’s nominators and references. As Fellows can account for no more than 10 percent of the total membership, the election process is highly competitive. Candidates are recommended by the Fellow Members Committee and approved by the Awards Council and Board of Directors.


The new Optica Fellows will be honored at the Society’s conferences and events throughout 2023.
